If you are looking for a beautiful and relaxing destination for your next holiday, you might want to consider Mother Ivey’s Bay, a stunning sandy beach on the north coast of Cornwall. In this blog post, I will share with you some of the reasons why I love this place and why you should visit it too.
Mother Ivey’s Bay is located near Padstow, a charming fishing town that offers plenty of attractions, shops, restaurants and pubs. You can easily reach the bay by car, bike or bus, or by walking along the scenic coastal path from Harlyn Bay, which takes about 20 minutes. The bay is named after Mother Ivy, a local white witch who allegedly cursed a nearby family in the 17th century. However, there is nothing spooky about this place, only natural beauty and tranquility.
The beach itself is a long stretch of golden sand that slopes gently into the clear blue sea. It is ideal for swimming, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding or just relaxing on the shore. The beach is backed by grassy dunes and cliffs that offer stunning views of the surrounding coastline and the Merope Rocks, which shelter the bay from the wind. The beach is also part of a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which means it is home to a rich variety of wildlife and plants.
One of the best things about Mother Ivey’s Bay is that it is never too crowded, even in the peak season. This is because there are no facilities or parking at the beach itself, which preserves its natural and peaceful atmosphere. However, if you need any amenities, you can find them at Harlyn Bay or at Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park, which is situated on 35 acres of land overlooking the bay.
If you stay at Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park, you will also have access to many other attractions and activities in the area. You can explore the nearby beaches of Harlyn Bay, Constantine Bay and Treyarnon Bay, which are all popular for surfing and other water sports. You can also visit the historic lighthouse at Trevose Head, which offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean. Or you can take a short drive to Padstow and enjoy its famous seafood restaurants, art galleries and boat trips.
Mother Ivey’s Bay is one of my favourite places in Cornwall and I hope you will love it too. It is a perfect destination for anyone who appreciates nature, beauty and tranquility. Whether you want to have an active holiday or just unwind on the beach, Mother Ivey’s Bay has something for everyone.
